What the province allows online
Gambling in British Columbia is lawful only when run by the provincial government. BCLC oversees every form of commercial gambling, from the Island Highway casino to play online. BCLC operates PlayNow.com, the sole legal site for online gambling in the province. Players there must be at least 19, the same age required at a casino.
The Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO) has been the regulator of gambling in British Columbia since April 13, 2026. The IGCO treats every other online gambling website that admits B.C. players as operating illegally in the province. This covers the site reached through the Ad links on the home page of this guide.
Three Ad links, one partner
Only the home page of this guide carries paid links. Every one is labelled Ad: a menu button, a block under the first screen and a block close to the page's end. Each of the three points to the same private online casino partner, which pays the guide a commission. Because the partner may change, it is not named in the guide.
That partner holds no licence or permission from British Columbia. PlayNow limits, Game Break self-exclusion and complaints to the IGCO do not reach its site. Links to the casino, BC Transit, BCLC, the province and help services are a different matter: none of them is ever paid.
Help at any hour
- Gambling Support BC answers at 1-888-795-6111, at no cost and in confidence, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and online at gamblingsupportbc.ca. It helps anyone in British Columbia, including family and friends affected by someone else's gambling.
- BCLC runs Game Break, a voluntary self-exclusion program that applies to B.C. gambling facilities and PlayNow.com. A person picks a term of 3 years, 2 years, 1 year or 6 months, and it cannot be changed afterward. Enrolment happens in person at any casino or community gaming centre, with government-issued photo ID, guided by a GameSense Advisor or staff member.
- There is a GameSense Info Centre on site at the casino at 1708 Island Highway. Every casino in British Columbia has a GameSense Advisor available, so help can be asked for in person.
The Car-Free desk and its sources
This guide is written and signed collectively as the Car-Free desk. No page carries a personal byline, and no person is pictured. Facts were checked on October 14, 2026, against the casino's own pages, BCLC, the province of British Columbia, BC Transit's open timetable data and OpenStreetMap.
Bus routes and stops are named, but never departure times, frequencies or fares, because those change with each BC Transit schedule. BC Transit publishes the current ones itself, at bctransit.com. Distances come from map data, and we give no riding or cycling times. The pictures are generated scenes with no people, logos or readable signs; they do not show the real casino or trails. No forms, comments or user accounts exist here; the tab only remembers the light or dark setting until it closes.
Asked on the way out
Does any private online casino hold a B.C. licence?
The IGCO says all online gambling websites other than PlayNow.com that let B.C. players in operate illegally in the province. The partner behind this guide's Ad links holds no licence or permission from British Columbia.
Do Game Break terms carry over to the Ad partner's site?
Game Break covers B.C. gambling facilities and PlayNow.com, and its reach stops there. It does not cover the partner's site, and neither do PlayNow limits or complaints to the IGCO.
Where can someone in Victoria play online legally?
The only lawful online gambling site in British Columbia is PlayNow.com, operated by BCLC and open to players 19 or older. The guide is not aware of any online casino operated by the casino on Island Highway.
